First off, let me introduce myself, my name's Magnus and I'm a member of an informal group of DayZ gamers called Last of the Living. We have a server with Fragnet, and it's currently been running for nearly 6 months.

We've been running our server 3PP-ON up until recently with 4-hour restarts, and had decent numbers pretty much every night. When we switched to hardcore the number has dropped (as I'm sure you'll notice on GT), and we're slowly building back a player base.

Now, considering the upcoming incorporation of persistent loot and private shards, are you guys leaning to team up with others to have a smaller hive of servers? We are tired of server hoppers and the likes as well, and would like some "privacy", but having only one server to access your hard-earned character is a bit slim at less active times of the day.

So, what do you say?

Hi Sinnaman,
I'm not sure yet what we will do once private hives become an option, I think largely it will come down to price (whether Fragnet will want to charge extra for this or not), and what the XSG members want to do.

Personally I'm inclined to keep the server on the public hive for now as while it does open us up to more more abuse it also means the largest number of players can join the server and play on their character.

Once more details about how the hive system will work and if there are any extra costs involved we will probably look at it more detail.

Well, we'll have to keep in touch then.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! We'll try to stop by your server sometime, maybe we can all meet up

So, time has passed and Last of the Living now hosts two servers on the same shard, one 3rd/1st PP and another which is 1st PP only. They are both 50 slots.

Are you guys considering whitelisting? To prevent hackers, for instance?

The decision isn't up to me but honestly what is the point of adding a whitelist or making it private.
Less people will join and even less people will bother to go to the North West.
Hackers will still join so I don't see the point.
The only interesting thing would be to only have other squads whitelisted who play at the North West but otherwise I don't see the point.
Like I said, I don't decide. Just here to give my opinion on the matter.

Unfortunately I don't think it is likely we will join our server to a private hive largely just to the extra cost as we are already struggling to pay for our server as it is, joining it to a private hive would increase the cost by an extra £20 a month which makes it even harder to pay for.
