In case you hadn't heard or noticed, all SOE servers are down today (24 hrs IIRC) in order to change the membership over to the new All-Access one.

Next step... implants.

Nope, I've not got surgery scheduled (had to get in before any of you gits) but the implants system is currently being trialled on the test server. 8GB update, so if anybody fancies it it could be worth a peek - and have another look at Hossin whilst you're at it.

Patch notes are here followed by the obligatory (currently 7) pages of flaming hatred from the vocal minority. However, if you read between the lines you get the gist of what they've brought to the table this time: a tiered crafting system for implants/power cells/whatever - a bit like refining gems in Diablo's Horadric Cube. Pictures and descriptions towards the bottom of Page 3.

Not sure I'm sold on implants, especially the random purchases (for SC or certs), but they'll do whatever they want and I'm sure we'll get used to it soon enough. I mean, the death screen update got a lot of hatred but I think the majority of people actually quite like it.

Some of the implants sound really bad, to be honest. These in particular sound kinda game breaking:

  • Auto-spots enemies who damage or kill you.  - This one is the most ridiculous. Get into a good position, or shoot someone in the back and you're suddenly spotted for all their friends.
  • Safe Landing - Apparently let's you jump off a tech plant without injury at higher levels. Light assault is no longer particularly special (although LA can still go over the walls). Combined with auto-spot shooting from roofs, etc, is kinda a lost cause.
  • Close-range enemy explosives are highlighted - Tank mines, C4 traps, etc, won't be dangerous for vehicles/MAXes. You'll have to get up close or blow it up with range.

I suspect some will get toned down (they already nerfed one that gave immunity to concussion grenades, for example).

They've finally got round to placing decals on composite armour (well.... coming soon™) so it looks like we might have to have that outfit logo discussion sometime soon

Double XP weekend should have started by now. Got the house to myself tonight so I'll be in-game from 8pm or so (GMT) until late if anybody fancies an impromptu event to bring in the (extended UK) weekend.

NVidia drivers v337.88 are out. Allegedly this fixes any black screen issues that occurred with PS2 and other recent driver versions. Framerates are meant to improve (though I wouldn't notice ) and I seem to recall reading something about ShadowPlay running in desktop mode - does that mean you can record 'fullscreen windowed' now?

Installed and testing. I'll report back if I get black screen again, if not then assume all is well.

Patch notes here.

Highlights include:
  • Megaloads of new ribbons - from a personal point of view I'm liking Air Deterrence (for my Burster MAX and Skyguard), Spotter, Anti-Tank, and Objective Support. Hopefully Lavium can remind me to drop a beacon to get at least one Squad Spawn ribbon!
  • Infantry decals will appear over armor.

And my favourite bug fix that I can recall:
  • Crouching then jumping on a vehicle will no longer result in suicide

As an aside, Player Studio is coming to us soon. If anybody's interested in submitting stuff head over to the forums here. You'll need to fill in a US tax form, but it's a single sheet and, whilst a bit confusing, is pretty straightforward. I recently got creative and started making a decal in preparation (see the evolution in this thread here):

YESProSiebenSat1 is no more you will be able to migrate from PSG to SOE this is great news for ppl that got suxerd into uesing ProSiebenSat1

o and you got 90 days to do it or you lose your ingame stuff so get on that befor its to late

This week's update ( full patch notes here) highlights include:

  • Potential liberator nerfs
  • Engineers can now equip the ammunition package directly by pressing the ability key (default: F)To match the above, the ammunition package is no longer equipped in the utility slot and is no longer an alternate fire mode on the ACE Tool.
  • The thrown ammunition package is now a physics object and is no longer in the deploy system. This will allow it to be thrown anywhere.


• The Medic tool now uses right click to revive and left click to heal.

"Our plan as of right now is to get Hossin, continent locking, outfit recruitment & outfit base capture live with next week's update."

These were on the Roadmap for June. Can it finally be?

Really interested to see how outfit recruitment actually works when it goes live. Looks good so far. Continent locking should work when Hosin is live - get me moved off Indar every now and again!

I think it might be time to throw up a retro PS2 night soon so we can check out Hossin once we've given them a week or so to fix all the bugs that always appear with these big updates.

1.5GB - downloading now.

I'll report back on the outfit recruitment (and decal) stuff, but we may need a higher power to access all the features (Gaz).

In the meantime, Higby's been tweeting about volumetric clouds and rain - neatly summarised at PSU here. Speculation that H1Z1 has added extra development for Forgelight. Looks awesome and should add extra immersion.

there has been some system messages about outfit decals, saying not to use them yet ... 

Whole zone seems cool if very, hazy, hard to snipe any kind of distance. the bases (the few ive been in) have very different layouts... nice atmosphere though, im liking it sofar!
