Since my original thread no longer really fits under 'Tech Discussion' I thought I'd make a new thread over here in the PS2 forum.

I'll keep the top post updated with my final submissions as well as their status, but the rest of it is my random waffle, work-in-progress, etc. The Player Studio forums are really useful for getting feedback, but can be a little daunting since they're full of pro designers. I want you guys and gals to be brutally honest with anything I throw at you here. Go crazy - tell me it how it is

Flaming logo would most certainly fit in with the state of many of our vehicles! I'm not to sure how good it would look on infantry skins though (does look cool though)

Maybe paint some of the flames blue? I mean blue + yellow are the NC colors and both fit with flames

Had a good think about whether it would actually work in-game when applied to armour - whether it would, as TRay would say, 'translate well'. One of the best ways to test this is to drop it to 128px or so, so here it is shrunk down and applied to 100px squares of camo, from light to dark.


I think it manages to hold its identity in all of these.

You've also go to remember that, although you submit a decal as a decal (not specifying vehicle or infantry) you buy them separately. Now go in-game and look at infantry: there's one lone Player Studio decal (dolphin ops) whereas there's loads of vehicle decals. To me, that says that there's no real market for infantry decals.

So that leaves vehicles: Galaxies have got a big ol' decal slapped on the side, as do Libs (I think). The rest of the vehicles are pretty small with their sizes, but... but... there's a change ahead to be able to place decals anywhere on a vehicle, and the Valkyrie is coming pre-made with a 3rd layer so we can have massive decals all down the sides (the 3rd layer will be added to existing vehicles later)!

Add this to the new outfit decal prominence (base capture, killscreen, etc) and I think decals may have more of a market in future.

Also, they are opening up shitloads more stuff for Player Studio enhancements soon. Tank turrets, tank composite armour, infantry scopes (model and optic), melee weapons, you name it you can make it. The talent of the Player Studio lot is phenomenal, so I can't see me trying to learn 3D as I'll not be able to compete with what they'll be putting on the table.

Cheers fella, it feels pretty fucking awesome! Also, great news that it's in both the Armor and Vehicle decals - bearing in mind that there are currently 57 Player Studio vehicle decals and only 4 Player Studio armor ones. The super-bonus to this is that only armor decals can be selected for use as outfit decals, so I may well see some outfit(s) using it in future!

Current submission status implies my 'Top Brass' series should be making an appearance sometime soon:

So assuming that it is sold for 200SC then I will receive 80SC-worth of money (or 72SC if a premium member buys it (10% off all items)). However, exactly how much an individual's SC is actually worth depends upon how they acquired it.

Example 1: The simplest example. A new player buys 500SC for $5.00, does not become a premium member but decides to buy my awesome decal. Each of his SC is valued at $0.01. I receive $0.80.

Example 2: A wealthy, existing premium player buys 10,000SC for $85.00. Each of his SC is worth $0.0085. Add in his membership discount of 10%, and I receive $0.61.

Example 3: A regular player wakes from a 2-year coma and remembers they bought 3,000SC in a triple-sale (remember those?) for the bargain price of $10.00. Each of his SC is worth $0.0033. I receive $0.27.

First example (full-price) I get about 50p per sale. Last example (worst-case scenario) I get about 17p per sale. Then the US take their tax. Then SOE pay out cheques at the end of every quarter - and only if you've earned enough to make it worth their while bothering (otherwise it just sits and waits until you've accrued enough).

I'll not forget you guys when I'm rolling in all that gold  

Bottom line - I went into this with the aim to get an asset published within a game that I love. Job done.

Excellent mate well done, im sure to give them a purchase next time I log in.

On a side note i logged in last week for the first time in ages and was amazed at the optimization they have done. It felt so smooth and i was getting excellent fps.

Glad you've logged in again, Jim - and also happy to hear you had a positive experience. The game is at a point now where I feel it has 'matured'. Yes, it still has some flaws and obviously the Forumsiders are going to keep up their whingeing but I think that everything seems pretty sweet at the moment. Take a quick look at this 'off the top of my head' list and compare it to when Beta ended:

  • Acheivements: medals, ribbons, directives (apparently the GODSAW sucks but I still gotta have it )
  • Optimisation
  • Lattice
  • New vehicles (Harasser and Valkyrie)
  • New weapons and weapon classes (SMG, shotgun)
  • New continents (inc VR Training)
  • Facility overhauls
  • Faction balance
  • Test server
  • Roadmap for development

There's now plenty of reasons to keep playing or even pick up the game again. It's really pretty polished, the sense of scale still sometimes blows my mind, and I guess once the PS4 release has been and gone we might start to see some renewed vigor in release of content (never mind a bigger market for cosmetic sales... mwahahaha).

I'm off to Germany for a couple of days again but I'll look at getting some events set up soon. Let the Smurfs ride again!

*Disclaimer* Yep, a lot of stuff in that list should have been in place before the Beta ended and it went Gold, but I'm glad I was playing the  released version whilst they were implementing those features. Extending the Beta by another year (and losing character progression over and over) would probably have caused me to lose interest.
