Never Winter Nights was very grindy and wasn't a really open world but more of a collection of area's which were connected by portals.. those 2 things made me quit the game quite quick.. it had some good things thoug like the ability to craft while not logged in the game.. having to actively block attacks was also something I enjoyed as a tank class

That's Neverwinter Online you're thinking of, Neverwinter Nights was the old non-MMO game that supported multi-player custom modules - I used to run a server for it, which was pretty popular. It was also what I was hoping Neverwinter Online would turn out to be more like...

yes and no.

Yes, because they are both ranged classes. And yes because both games are a mix of SciFy and Fantasy so they will have some similarities.

No, because telekinetic and gravity are slightly different. But mostly no because an esper still can wield a blade while the kinetic will only have his hands/gloves.

But the true test off course will be once the game becomes available to test it ourselves :-)
