If you come across some tips and tricks that you think might help others ... leave them here

These are the ones I found very handy so far:

1)  when in hyperspace .. press your 'throttle to 0' keybind (default: X). That way you will exit hyperspace and immediatly full stop.

2) make a keybind to your galaxy map (M-key would be a logical choice). You'll need it often.

tip: don't wait with collecting your bounty vouchers too long. If you happen to die (because you fly into something for example) ... it's bye bye bounties

Probably going to buy this tonight and set it up (since I'm getting so annoyed having to check the keybinds menu every 5 mins to figure out what I need to press!), but it is pretty easy to setup voice control for many common commands in ED.

Download Voice Attack (comes with a trial so you can test but only costs $8): http://www.voiceattack.co ... m/

Basic Voice Attack profile for Elite: https://dl.dropboxusercon ... %20Basic-Profile.vap

If you want even more immersion then there is a professionally recorded custom voice pack you can use (rather than the more basic Windows Text to Speech converter), that has loads of ED specific recordings: http://www.elitedangerous ... voicepack.com/

The basic pack is £5, but for an additional £10 they will record custom names for you and your ship computer.

The voice pack also includes a few ED profiles for common controller setups so you don't need the Voice Attack profile at the top I think.

Would like to try it but since at the moment no door seperates me and my sleeping son i can't really use it since when he is awake i can't play at the moment, anyway:

If you want to rank up with factions here how i did it:
(1) Go to systems on the age of faction space

(2) do some missions for the local factions that are belong to the main faction to raise your standing (especially the once without money reward are great)

(3) now there should show up these "spread the word" of the sub-faction mission even they give less then 1000cr do them

(4) soon the faction rank progession mission should show up, first datahandler, then general assassination and then smuggling (at least with the empire

(5) that way i got in less then 5h the permit mission (yes its in the built in board too) for Achenar .. well always did some bounty hunting in the systems with ring planets with thier resources extraction sides

Small little in-system trade route that gives about 35-50k per round trip profit.

The amount you earn is dependant on cargo space and supply demand as lots of people are delivering the goods too.

System: Ongkampan

Station 1: Fawcett Gateway
Item: Marine equipment

Station 2: Patterson Equipment
Item: Tea

here is another goodie.

If you sell your ship you loose 10% of the ship and fitted mods. If you sell the mods beforehand and replace them with E-class-crap you get the full money for the mods back. then sell the ship with the crap mods onboard. you will loose 10 percent on the hull but you safe the cash on the mods. for ships like the asp and above that will save you millions in the process.

What I'm doing is playing mostly in Solo play until I've got myself a proper financial status..
Those NPC pirates are not so tough..

Demonjeger did you try to give them some of your cargo? pirates will not kill you if you play along the piracy roleplay.

Tried this but not all pirates go along with this.. there's plenty out there who even after getting the cargo still think it's cool to blow up your ship "because they can". Happened to me about 4 times (different scumbags).

those are not pirates, we do not kill if the trader complies. but yeah the current implementation of bounties is not good. PKer can go on a killing rampage and freely fly into any station to clear their bounty... insta clean with no consequences...

And this is why atm I don't play open and only play private group play, only have to deal with friends who can't fly rather than random dicks.

I just think it's an issue with players in larger more powerful ships having no repercussions for their actions.

A small fine that they can probably pay off is not a big enough deterrent but I believe Frontier are aware of this and will be able to patch changes in fairly rapidly. At the end of the day, it boils down to murder in the game which has to be dealt with harshly.

On the flip side they can't make Pirating/Assassination non-viable otherwise you'll lock out a portion of the player base who actual play the role quite well or enjoy that lifestyle.

Fingers crossed there'll be changes soon as it's obviously causing issues.

I also hope Star Citizen Devs are watching so they can avoid this problem from the start.

I like the way EVE Online handles this, there are systems that have 'police', but just like police in real life they don't stop someone committing a crime if they choose too, they just provide a response.

If you steal something that is flagged as 'owned' by someone else, the police do nothing but they do get rights to attack you without getting flagged as criminal themselves.

If you attack someone else then the police will arrive within a few seconds and kill you in short order (no 10min dogfights, you die in seconds). What this opens up though is the few seconds it takes for the police to warp in, if you equip your ship right you can do enough damage in those few seconds to kill your target and hopefully make enough money to cover your ship loss.

This gets more interesting when you target bigger ships that you can't take on alone, but with 5 of you in cheap, but high alpha (1 shot damage), setup ships can take out bigger targets.

It's a nice balance between having police insta-killing anyone making these areas too safe (and risk free and boring), and having pirates in bigger ships be able to take on anyone they want with little risk and then easily being able to clear the bounty and carry on doing what they want. In order to take out ship X you need Y amount of firepower which has a cost (either in fitting one ship with higher end gear that will be lost, or needing more friends also willing to lose their ships), so you get a risk vs reward balance where most people are safe but if someone wants you dead then it is doable for them but requires some risk or investment by them.
