AND they haven't even shown any of the work they have done on squadron 42 yet!

Roll on CitizenCon!

My only problem is that it's taking them this long to create an amazing looking game, are they going to be able to pump out good content quickly after launch.

I know in many ways there will be EVE aspects coming through, but like Elite it won't be full player driven so it'll be interesting to see how much of space remains sparse.

Watched it live, its seriously impressive what they had to show, Some aspects are coming along faster than expected, i think how good the PG stuff ended up being so quickly has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works and sent them back to the drawingboard to implement now rather than later.

Its exciting though, cos it all just sort of worked, even as early as it was.

Indeed ... and I really hope that is good news and that they will marvel us once it's ready.
And not that it means that they are scrapping squadron 42.

Fingers crossed.

There is not a chance they are scrapping it. They have over 200 people working on it and the bits they have shown suggest that it is much farther along than they have shown to the public. I just hope the first 10 hours of it comes out before Christmas (which is what they were always aiming for).

I also watched this live, and was seriously impressed with what I saw. However, I have many issues with the focus of development:

> For all the progress made, there are still a large number of ships left to finish.

> The cast for SQ42 is nothing short of epic. How much of the 100+ million pledged was spent on their wages? Whilst it will be a one-of-a-kind piece of entertainment, I'd argue that this is still a game, and the game itself is what we will be playing, not Gillian Anderson (sadly).

> Too many new concept ships are being brought out for sale, which makes me wonder why CIG keep needing these obvious cash injections.

I'm over the double concierge level in amount spent, and will likely spend some more over the years, but they need to finish off all the ships, and all the variants of the ships. Some have had two or three makeovers, while others are not even out of concept!

I understand that hangar/flight ready models of the quality shown by the Constellation Andromeda take a whole boatload of time to do, hence they can't be rushed. I also understand SQ42 has to be the focus right now, but we need to see progress with more than one ship being flyable every three months... people pledge to fly the ships, and people have been waiting years to even see what they've paid hundreds of pounds for, outside of a concept picture (BMM/Carrack etc etc).

I understand that we're not paying for the ships, but giving our money to support the development in return for having access to said ships 'at some point', but many people fail to grasp the concept. If their defence, CIG need to produce regular updates on all non-flyable ships, even if it is just new concept art showing that they're at least thinking about what they will be like when production starts. A lot of people are getting annoyed that no progress seems to have been made on some ships (BMM/Carrack as good examples again) since their first concept release, and CIG ate still releasing new concepts....

I have some sympathy for them. CIG need to balance the need of SC with the need for SQ42. Focus on SQ42 is fair enough, considering it'll be what they are judged on initially, but some of these 200-odd people need to be working full time on SC assets.

Yeah was a cool GamesCon presentation and can't wait for citizenCon and hopefully more SQ42 info.
I just hope that it is true, They are building now the underlining technology (and for the planets we only saw 1.0 and they already have 2.0 nearly finished internally). From the sounds of it they building it the way, that designers can relatively easily push out more stuff.

With the ships I think it is the same we saw with the Saber and MISC etc. once they have the new assets for a manufacturer done, it should be way quicker to push out "new" ships. And hopefully that all goes faster when SQ42 is finished and these people then hopefully focus on the PU and not Episode 2.

I guess they need more and more money, since they already have epic running coasts (inkl. the rent of servers and bandwidth for the PTU and Alpha etc. apart from personal and office space). Still hope they have a good concept to keep going and not that the money is already used up.

Anyway hope the best!

And now the question: Anyone in to try out the 2.5 on Friday? Hope I can be online around 8pm German time!

Anyone expand their fleet during the exploration sale? I melted a few things, and am left with:

Exploration Mega Pack
Weekend Warrior
Connie Phoenix
Argo Personnel, upgraded to Reliant Kore.

I had to melt my Catapillar pack and an LTI Freelancer for the Exporation Mega pack, but it was such a bargain I was able to buy it using credit and the proceeds from the melt (plus a subscriber 10% coupon), and had enough left to buy the Argo and upgrade it to a Reliant!

Ahem... I promised not to spend any more money on ships. So I obviously bought the Terrapin...

I am a failure...

I should be around on Friday. I was playing yesterday for about 4 hours and had a blast! It is really fun with all the extra stuff they have added. Love the pirate base. Grim Hex is atmospheric for sure

I could hold back and not spend more money. But was really tempted with the Terrapin (wanted to melt my cutlass red ... but didn't since the Q&A for the Terrapin where not supporting the SAR option).

Will be around on Friday ... need some more credits hehe for a armor

I streamed some of 2.5 last week & it's a massive step up from the last time I tested SC.

Shit myself when I couldn't find my ships in my Hangar but worked out (eventually) how to bring them back, although that Freelancer of mine is fecking massive & takes up too much room.

Performance was OK, but we know it's going to kick the crap out of systems at launch and will need much optimizing to get smooth.

Walking still felt odd though, doesn't seem tangible.

It was this demo that got me onto SC, and I think this is the game I've been waiting for, like a space faring fantasy come true.
